Central Grounds

Welcome to Central Grounds

Central Grounds is a teen center run by and for Bloomington area high school students. Located in the Creekside Community Center, Central Grounds is a place where teens can hang out, be with friends, listen to music, have something to eat, watch a video, play a game, do homework, or otherwise “chill” and have fun.

Central Grounds is run by high school students, but overseen by Bloomington United for Youth. BUY has long advocated for the creation of a safe, fun place for high school students to go when they’re not in school. This critical community asset is an important response to disturbing evidence about high levels of tobacco, drug and alcohol use among Bloomington’s youth. In addition, Central Grounds offers an excellent opportunity for youth to develop leadership and organizational skills, as well as to interact constructively with adults.

Central Ground appreciates the strong support we’ve received since our creation in 2001 from students, parents, the Bloomington School District, the Bloomington City Council, business leaders, and many other members of the community. This support is what drives Central Grounds and ensures its success.

Get Involved

There are many opportunities for high school students to become involved with the leadership, management and event planning associated with Central Grounds. Adult volunteers are also needed to provide guidance and direction. Please volunteer by using the appropriate links on the BUY website.
