Tri-City Partners

Bloomington United for Youth is a supporter and partner with Tri-City Partners because we believe in their mission and organizational initiatives.

Tri-City Partners focuses specifically on the issue of reducing substance use and building protective factors in youth. At BUY, we know that it is very important to address the problem of youth substance abuse. Alcohol and marijuana are the substances most commonly abused by our youth. Research shows that youth who use alcohol or drugs before the age of 15 are four times more likely to have substance abuse issues later in life.

BUY endorses the strategies being used by Tri-City Partners to reduce youth substance abuse. These include environmental strategies that affect community attitudes, perceptions, norms, and beliefs around alcohol and other drugs, such as:

  • Convene community partners to coordinate prevention efforts
  • Build awareness of effective practices , solutions, and resources
  • Provide trainings, forums, and workshops
  • Promote youth engagement opportunities
  • Monitor and communicate youth substance use trends
  • Strengthen community norms that will foster a lifetime of healthy choices
  • Strengthen policies that reduce youth access to alcohol and drugs

Funding for Tri-City Partners is provided through a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental HealthServices Administration (SAMHSA). Additional support is provided by Bloomington Public Health.
